So ... the solstice ... yeah. we read Stopped by the Woods on a Snowy Evening for the occasion. Becuase we were in such a happy mood, we also read this poem, too.

Monday and Tuesday Dec 19

So today we did two things:

Poetry, for which we are now doing the two poems below.

And the next part of the Culminating Activity, which we will finish by the end of this week.

I am a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations on my lunch breaks, making them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, I write award-winning operas, I manage time efficiently. Occasionally, I tread water for three days in a row.

I woo women with my sensuous and godlike trombone playing, I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed, and I cook Thirty Minute Brownies in twenty minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, and an outlaw in Peru.

Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello, I was scouted by the Mets. I am the subject of numerous documentaries. When I’m bored, I build large suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy urban hang gliding. On Wednesdays, after school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge.

I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, and a ruthless bookie. Critics worldwide swoon over my original line of corduroy evening wear. I don’t perspire. I am a private citizen, yet I receive fan mail. I have been caller number nine and won the weekend passes. Last summer I toured New Jersey with a traveling centrifugal-force demonstration. I bat .400. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame in international botany circles. Children trust me.

I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read Paradise Lost, Moby Dick, and David Copperfield in one day and still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I have performed covert operations for the CIA. I sleep once a week; when I do sleep, I sleep in a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of physics do not apply to me.

I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, and my bills are all paid. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I have made extraordinary four-course meals using only a Mouli and a toaster oven. I breed prizewinning clams. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis.

But I have not yet gone to college.

So we were back in the library, working on writing and posting and getting things done.

We had the list of Canadian Poets today, too so that people could sign up for their poet for their presentation.

I thought it was a nice way to finish off this week.

Such a happy pig

Well, that pig might be me, to be frank. We were in the library today, learning how to blog and well, this is my wheelhouse, so to speak.

Everything is adjustable, customizable and ... I'm hoping you can take these skills and make money someday.

Monday Dec 11

Well, it was a quiz day - we put the final touches on A Separate Peace. Finito, finished, done.

We also started the Poetry Unit, too. Got the handout out to the masses - I'll upload a copy of it on the right-hand side of the blog tomorrow.

We finished the novel today - Woooooo!

We also took the remainder of the class and worked on the material due on Monday, and we got a bit of a preview of the Poetry Unit.

We also worked on the Office 365 copy of the character sketches for Monday, too.

So far, I think my class likes the D2L version better, but we'll see about that later.

Wed Dec 6

This song was mentioned in the Period 3 class. I thought it important that I post it here, too.

In any case, Period 4 class was a short one today, as we were on the Liturgy Schedule for today. We got to page to 201.

We got the rest of the rest of the questions, too. 34, 35 and 36.

We also set the due date as Monday Dec 11th for Part two of the Novel Study.

Tuesday Dec 5

So ... we read to page 186 in the super cool version of the book. I'm honestly hoping we drag this unit out for another six weeks.

Yeah, I'm just kidding. We should be done by the end of the week.

I will post the due date tomorrow. We got 31, 32 and 33 from the questions.

We also did a dry run of the Office365 "worktogether" to get the character sketches done as a group.

We'll carry on with them tomorrow. Hopefully together, but you never know.

Mon Dec 4

Convocation Hall, UofT

So we talked today about what's happening this week - lots of things and events going on, including a Liturgy on Wednesday.

In any case, we have 14 days left before the Break. Sort of, but not really.

We kept reading ASP today - we got to pg 174 in the big copy. Leper has just paid a visit back to Devon.

We also have question 31 for the first question of Part Two of ASP.

Fri Dec 1

We had a bit of time on or hands in Period 4

Today we did our quiz and finished it with about 20 minutes left mark. Too late to read, and some people needed to finish off work.

We worked together on making some "me-mes" for the novel. Yes, I wrote it as "me-mes", just to be annoying.

Right, we will get back to reading and working towards the CA on Monday.
